I have been having a problem with my 12" Powerbook (1.5 ghz, 1.25 GB RAM, OSX 10.4.11) and the correct outputting of sound.
Right now, it is confused whether to send audio out to the headphone jack (whether something's plugged in there or not) or the speakers.
Also, the speakers aren't always visible in the Preferences/Output window as a selection. To experiment, I plugged a line into the headphone jack to see if I could get sound out of it and I could actually hear it alternating between the line-out and the speakers. I could also see the selection in Preferences switch between Headphones and Internal Speakers. Only one selection would be present at a time; it didn't switch back-and-forth between them - the line simply turned into one or another (hope that makes sense).
It's irritating. I use my PB to DJ and really need it to function correctly.
I also use Virtual DJ, which often causes sound output confusion unless set up right, but now the problem is happening with virtually any application, even when previewing audio in the Finder.
I noticed the night before this became chronic and persistent, I installed a Security Update.
Does anybody have a similar problem or know the cure?
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thank you.
