Sound Output??

Hey Fellas, my Mac Pro has been playing up for the past couple of weeks.

Namely I cannot control he volume of my external speakers using the volume controls for the computer. There was a time when a SMU reset would fix the problem but not any more.

Line Out is selected as the source for sound output. When i try to change the volume the user interface sound comes from the internal speaker.

It seems that the volume control in the menu bar is only controlling the internal speakers and I cant seem to change it!!!

Is this something anyone has heard of before and is there a fix that you know of?

Line out is the port on the back with the headphone symbol next to it –*it's on the right side of the computer (if you're looking at the back of the Mac Pro). Check and see if your speakers are plugged into the right port.

yeah they are, been plugged in to that output since day one...

This occasionally happens to me only if my speaker volume is so low that it's practically silent, at which point the internals take over.

Try and borrow a friend's speakers--isolate the problem to the speakers or the system.
