I have a MacBookPro3,1 and it has a sound problem. The sound is completely dead, no matter whether I use headphones/external speakers or I use the internal speakers. I can still adjust the volume control on the keyboard. I have also zapped the PRAM and tried running the maintenance script. Any suggestions?

When you increase/decrease the volume do you here the soft 'clicks' or chirp (depending on what you call them. Does it make a noise?)

What version of Mac OS X are you using?

No, there is no chirp. However, when i do restart my computer, I hear the chime. So unless the "chime" uses a different internal speaker, I don't think there is a hardware problem.
