I been having some sound problems that I can't fix.

I'm running a g4 flat panel - 10.2.8

It started with an application call VLC - which is a media player I used to watch films etc. The sound stopped on this. I've messed with all preference settings for this and the settings in System Preferences under audio.

I tried using a previous version of VLC but had the same problems.

Now something stranger has happened. If I turn down sound for anything using the main sound controller I still have a sound in the right stick.
If I turn it all the way up the sound only increases in the left stick. It's as if I'm changing the sound balance instead.

Sound controllers in applications (ie iTunes) do affect both speakers.
What I'm having to do is use the main sound controller to get the correct balance and then using application sound controllers to increase or decrease volume.

Any ideas on a fix?

Regards
Marcus
