Sound when iPhone set to silent?

I usually have my iPhone 5 set to silent and I always watched videos on the internet with sound.
Today I tried to to that, but no sound...
So I put my iPhone to not silent, then the sound was back.

I used to have sound of YouTube when my iPhone was set to silent, but now it won't to that anymore.
Does anyone know why this is?

Is your volume down by any chance? Bring up the control center by swiping down from the bottom while the phone is on silent and make sure the volume level is set high enough.

It is high enough, I can even do maximum volume... But no sound.
