Hey guys! I recently installed the extension of soundflower in order to be able to record my screen with audio. After seeing it doesn't record the audio i wanted to uninstall it.
I firstly used the the conventional uninstall script file that was in the install folder it came with and restarted my system.
after opening the system i wanted to make sure all the files were gone, but one file was still there "soundflower.kext" . Then i tried also to remove it with other ways and with Terminal command rm. but with no luck as well, it insists on staying in my library system extensions.
Im running macos catalina 10.15.5

How can i remove it please? and is it dangerous or can affect my mac in any way if it is there?

Thank you for your help!

Soundflower comes with a removal script in the original .dmg file. You can run that and it will unload then delete the .kext. If you don't have it any more, I would say download it again and mount the .dmg. After that, just click the "Uninstall sound flower.scpt". That would be my first recommendation, although with a few extra steps you can do it via terminal. First you have to unload the .kext then remove it.

Yes so like i mention in the post, I used firstly the removal script that was in the install folder, and I also tried after that with the terminal. It delete all the files of soundflower except for one file like I showed in the picture in my post. this one file insists on staying in my system folder no matter how i try to delete it.

Try disabling SIP then removing it as described at the bottom of this post.

I wish I could find you the article I read about this when Mojave came out, but I cannot find it. Mojave has this odd kext folder that is protected by SIP, yet it allows app installers to put kext files in there. But since they are SIP protected, you cannot delete them with SIP on.

Run this command
Code:
sudo kextcache --clear-staging

Thank you! I've tried it now but didnt work:\
seems like the folder is protected

Yeah i saw the articles about it as well, and the probably disabling the SIP would fix it, but im somewhat withdrawn from the idea of disabling it, i've never done that before.
is this soundflower.kext file could harm my system in any way if i leave it there?
