When i connect these two, where should sound be heard from by default? The StudioDisplay or the MBpro?
Also... If i connect the mbpro to a non Apple display thats not equiped with speakers, would sound come from the mbpro? If so, is it really worth buying the StudioDisplay? Wont i have sound from my MBPro anyway?

where you change the volume in the menu bar, if you have more than one audio output available, you can choose there.

If you've got AirPods, or another bluetooth speaker connected to your Mac, they show up in the same place as the speakers in your monitor will. Right now it will probably have your "MacBook speakers"

So when connected to the SDisplay, i will have to adjust the mbpro speakers settings?

In the Control Panel click on Sound:

You will get a drop down that looks like this:

It will list all available outputs including your Mac, the external display, AirPods, wired headphones, bluetooth speakers, etc.

Click to activate the destination you want at the time. MacOS recognizes when you put your AirPods in and will switch over automatically.

In the Sound Settings pane (which you can activate from a link at the bottom of the sound output list, you can also see the list of available outputs, but there doesn't seem to be a way to arrange the default order.

You shouldn't need to fiddle with the sound settings much. I also suspect that the sound will get routed to the Studio Display or external monitor by default (after you manually choose it the first time) when it recognizes that the display is attached. I don't use my MBP with external monitors with speakers enough to know for sure, but I only had to configure my mini's audio once.
