Harman updated their Soundsticks to version 3.

http://www.harmankardon.com/EN-US/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?PID=SOUNDSTICKS3AM

They increased the price 40 bucks and the only changes: using a white light instead of blue, now they use braided wire in the speakers, and it's 'easier to turn it off.' Same wattage, same everything else.

This is timely for me, as I've disconnected my Soundsticks II after many years. They are just falling apart, but have served me well.

I'm in need of new speakers, but I don't dig the clear enclosures - it just seems so dated now. I've got $250 in gift certs to the Apple Store so I've been sniffing around the B&W MM-1. I hear the quality is fantastic within 5 feet, which is all I care about. I just can't justify the $499 price tag. Yet.

Oh, and I don't want a sub - I already have a huge sub in my office for my HK AVR Receiver.

Anyone hear the MM-1s in person?

To paraphrase the Talking Heads.

"Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was."

There are a lot of other speakers out there for less money, likely just as good or better. My soundsticks are looking dated, I hate the way the sub takes up desk space, so I'm about ready to move on as well.

But they're paid for, so maybe I'll just rattle-can 'em flat black.

they really are classic.
i've gone around on making changes myself but at the end of the day there isn't another pair of speakers under 1000$ i'd rather have on my desk

I caved and bought the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1s.

The reviews are correct, it's a superior near-field listening experience.

Doesn't fill a room like the Soundsticks do, but there's no comparison within 4 feet of the speakers.

A wise choice. There's simply no comparison. B&W are a specialist manufacturer of quality speakers.
