Soundtrack joining issues...

Hey everybody!
I just bought Final Cut Express Upgrade and i installed all the applications including Soundtrack. I did not install the media (will do that when i get an external hard drive - im a student!).
Anyway this is the issue: I have been given the job of compiling the CD for my schools concert night. So the recording ended up being over 2.5 hours! i need to separate that into tracks! I have done so but it won't let me join to tracks. Edit> Join is faded!



But i need to be able to do this
What am i doing wrong?

I would guess because nobody knows the answer. Maybe look for a Final Cut forum and ask again? This, after all, is a forum for fanboys not experts

i posted it in the apple discussion forums as well.... no answer there either!
surely someone here know's the answer!
