Space & letters move while typing

I appreciate any help anyone can provide.
I own a 3 year old macbook 13.3 inch. I run disk utilities often and have Norton Security. I run the virus scan regularly as well.
For some reason, while I am typing areas will highlight and then delete when I press the next key. The words I type bounce around from top to bottom and in between.
Is my keyboard on the blink or could it be my laptop is getting ready to die?

Maybe you accidentally touch the trackpad?
Take a look at System Preferences > Trackpad > (paraphrased) ignore accidental input.
