I have a new 2011 MBP with Lion. I recently found a firewire 800 HDD enclosure that I thought would be good for time machine backups. The internal HDD of my MBP is 750GB, with 400GB of it going towards Lion, the other 250GB for the bootcamp partition. When time machine does a backup, does it backup the entire HDD, or just the Mac partition? That way I know what size drive to buy (750GB vs 500GB).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

By default, Time Machine automatically backs up the boot partition. To backup another drive, just remove the drive from the ignore section. I think.

Time Machine will not back up a Boot Camp Partition, or any other drive not formatted for the Mac. I'd say a 500GB could be ok for a while (depending on how full that 400GB partition is), but a 640 or 750GB would be better.
