Just a quick question... Just got my first mac (2.4 alu macbook)

Spaces seems to be very handy to me, but how many space to you people have it set to? I have mine at 9 at the moment.

I use four on both my MacBook and my 20" iMac (which is connected to a 20" Dell external). I love Spaces. Although I'm not a fan of what bird's eye view looks like when you have multiple displays.

wow. 9 spaces is too many for me :)

I use 4 as well. What does bird eye view look like on dual monitors? Can you post a picture?

This is a screenshot from my main display. My secondary display is blank. Total waste of space.

Ya I use 9 and it seems to be ok, I tried more but it got a bit confusing.

What do people have in each space then?
1. Finder and system preferences etc..
2. Firefox
3. iTunes
4. Office 08 and iWork 09
5. MSN, iPhoto and transmission
6. Mail (opens on login)
7. Photoshop CS4
8. Illustrator CS4, Garageband
9. InDesign CS4

I tend to multi-task a lot and spaces is really good for this.
iTunes, mail and firefox are often open whenever the mac's on.

I recently moved to 9 spaces, up from 6. I was just filling up my spaces too quickly.

My spaces generally hold:

1. Firefox and Adium
2. eyeTV
3. Photoshop CS4
4. iTunes / Phoneview
5. open (for one-off programs I may need to run now and then)
6. Lightroom
7. Acquisition
8. Terminal
9. open

#1,2,3,4 and 6 generally never change...the others change from time to time, depending on what apps I need to run regularly.

I'm so glad OS X came with spaces - this is my first time using OS X (I've had my system now for just over a year), and I couldn't live without virtual desktops at this point :)

4 - and I only use 2 of them regularly. 1 is for IM and EyeTV and general work, 2 is for browsing and Mail, 3 is for Parallels, 4 is open.

When I'm in my office, I have two monitors (my laptop screen and an external 24-inch monitor). I use four Spaces.

My first Space is given over entirely to Entourage, since my mail and calendar is what I use the most in any given work day. My second Space is my workspace, which has whatever app that I'm working in that day (today: PowerPoint, with a side of Excel). My third Space is Safari, and my fourth is iTunes.

Regards,
Nadyne.

I use a max of 4 spaces.

Upper-Left: Main Internet Desktop (IM, Safari, IRC, etc).
Upper-Right: Documents (Office 2008, iWork 09, Terminal, etc).
Lower-Left: Multimedia (iLife 09, Flash, HTML, etc.)
Lower-Right: Miscellaneous

I have 2 and only use 1 of them. Switching is too slow for me to adequately multitask effectively.

2x2. Four in toto. More than enough for me.. I get weirded out when certain apps are not opened in their 'correct' Space. Most, though, I have configured to open in certain Spaces.

I use 6.

1. Safari
2. Uni work stuff (Adobe apps/3D apps)
3. iTunes
4. IM/Text Edit
5. NetNewsWire/Random stuff
6. Video

What is the cost of spaces of let's say 1 vs. 9? Memory and resources... just wondering...

As far as I'm aware I don't think there is any memory increase, after all, what matters is the apps you have open. Whether they're open in one space, or across multiple space, it's all the same. I could be wrong though.
