Spaces -Wallpaper

Thank you in advance -
Macbook pro 10.12.2 Sierra, 2.5GHz, 8GB, 1600 MHz DDR3, intel graphics 4000 1536 HD

while adding spaces - the preview with the + shows current wallpaper - but when it is added -the screen is black -

any ideas - not effecting functionality - but I want my backgrounds not black -

Have no idea why it isn't working, but why not update your OS and see if it fixes it?
