When Sparrow was acquired by Google, its developers said that development for the alternative email app had ceased with the exception of "support and critical updates."

It appears that support for the iPhone 5's larger screen is considered a critical update, and Sparrow CEO Dom Leca has promised an update "soon", saying so in a tweet noticed by The Next Web.

Can't wait to get Sparrow or the new app made by the Sparrow team together with Google for Android.

I dont get the big deal with Sparrow. I tried it out but still found myself using the stock mail app. Maybe I should give it another shot.

How about instead of little updates for hardware compatibility on iOS, they make the Mac version of Sparrow actually not suck again? :( The version on the Mac App Store is buggy and awful.

Well at least that's good. Now we need Exchange support to make it useful for me.

It'll never get Exchange support and probably never would have even if they'd remained independent. If I remember correctly, the company consists of something like 5 people, so licensing ActiveSync from Microsoft wasn't economically feasible for them.

I just want to see the reason of the buyout come to fruition, and have a new official Gmail app for iOS, Mac (and Windows please!), that borrows all of the good bits from Sparrow, and benefits from full integration with Google. Then they can retire Sparrow properly without any bad feelings.

And then maybe they can release a new Google Talk app. That thing is so stale, and I don't want to have to keep my browser open constantly, or use third party multi-im apps that don't always work (I'm looking at you, Trillian).

I hope the Gmail app from Google gets iPhone 5 support soon as well. I use that a ton more than I ever used Sparrow.

Sparrow's problem

In a lot of ways Sparrow is a very good e-mail client, with a very slick and eye-pleasing interface. But it has one problem that rules it out as a competitor to Apple Mail: the poor way it handles spam. Yes, it comes with a Spam folder, but heaven knows what that folder is for, and it doesn't seem to be at all "teachable." Nor can you make up for its deficiency by teaming it with a third-party helper such as Spam Sieve, since such anti-spam programs work by plug-ins and Sparrow can't handle plug-ins. If Google bought it is a new and better G-Mail client, it's going to have to fix this problem to turn it into a really credible application. Until this is addressed, Sparrow is a toy, not a tool.

what is big deal about sparrow(if u don't have a gmail) or any other email apps no matter on iOS or Mac, personally I never had any issues with iphone email app, there was with Mac app but they flawless now.
few years back I've tried some apps and got very bad experience with entourage, stupid Microsoft made email removing from server when you use it by default. Awesome, can u imagine?! they deleted 10 years old emails.
stick to iOs app and mac email app

Why do you visit Macrumors then?

maybe he is a Mac user, as here some people only use an iphone with PC

I was interested in Sparrow... That is until Google bought it. Now I want nothing to do with it. Google looks over my shoulder plenty as it is, thank-you very much.
