So the addition of Spatial Photos on iPhone 16 is great!

Was anyone else disappointed at the lack of 4K Spatial Videos?
It seemed such an obvious upgrade at least to me.

I think 4k spatial video file size may be a factor.
Yeah that’s a good point. But 1080p HD is 65MB per minute at 30 fps while Spatial just doubles it to 130MB. So 4K is 190 MB per minute. I thought 4K spatial would just double that which would still be less than 4K at 60fps (440MB)? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've been impressed with the results converting 2D images to spatial on the AVP. It'll be interesting to compare them to the new spatial photos captured on the iPhone 16.

I was thinking that too. I’m eager for visionOS 2!

I noticed that too. Strange they’d get that wrongq
It’s weird. AFAIK, the iPhone 15 Pro Max can’t take spatial photos, just videos. (I have one.) What’s equally odd is that the 15 Pro and Pro Max are no longer available in the U.S. Apple Store online or in the app. Apple wants to sell the corresponding IPhone 16s.

Apple always stops selling the Pro models right after the keynote, so that isn't anything unusual. They also stop selling the phone that's three generations old (iPhone 13 in this case).

Good news. iPhone 15 Pro will be able to take Spatial Photos (presumably after iOS18). The 'Compare' page has now been updated:

https://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone-16-pro,iphone-15-pro,iphone-16
Hmmmm...turns out that 'Spatial Photos' is only listed as a feature for iPhone 15 Pro if you navigate to 'Compare iPhone' via the Apple UK website. If you navigate to 'Compare iPhone' via the Apple US website, there is no reference to 'Spatial Photos' for iPhone 15 Pro. Very odd. I certainly cannot think of any reason why this feature would be restricted according to region. Must be an error on one of the countries web pages....hoping the UK website is correct

FYI - I have an iPhone 15 Pro, but not an AVP (yet!). I am UK based. Not had chance to download iOS18 yet, but when I do, I will check if there is any sign of 'Spatial' option for photos

The Vision Pro does such a great job at converting photos to spacial it should not matter if the phone can take them natively or not. I have been having lots of fun playing with the feature and pictures folks sent me years ago convert nicely. It has not worked on some really old pictures I have but I am shocked at how great the results are.

I have upgraded my iPhone 15 pro max to iOS 18 and NOTHING has changed relative to spatial capture. The goggles switch for spatial capture still only shows on the video screen. I am waiting for my iPhone 16 pro max to be delivered Friday.

Thanks. Yes, I have also now upgraded my 15 Pro to iOS 18 and cannot see any option for taking spatial photos (still only see the goggles icon in the video option). I am not upgrading to a 16 Pro, but would be interested to know if the spatial photo option is active on 16 and 16 Pro from day 1.

What do you do to enable Vision Pro to convert to spatial. I can`t find anything on mine. Thanks for any info.

Spatial photos will indeed be possible on the iPhone 15 pro in 18.1. It’s available in beta now, including live spatial photos.

A question about getting spatial photos on my Vision Pro. I`ve heard it came happen, but I can`t find a way to convert my photos to spatial. I thought the new update would include something. Thanks for any help.

When you open an individual 2D photo in your Photos app using VisionOS 2.0, next to the back button in the upper left corner will be the button to make it Spatial. Just select that.

You just made my day! I was hoping for Live Spatial Photos someday. I’m very very happy to know it’s coming!

iPhone 15 Pro has been able to do spatial videos since not long after launch but it was beta feature you had to turn on in settings. With iOS18 it’s now a main part of the menu.

The reason there isn’t 4K spatial video for the native camera app is because if you switch between regular video and spatial video in the menu you’ll notice it crop in quite a bit. That’s because it’s stabilising the video because watching spatial video that’s not stabilised can make you feel sick.

There are a few third party camera apps for iPhone. Spatialify is one. SpatialCamera is another. Where you can shoot 4K 30 HDR or 1080p 60 HDR but you’ll notice they are not stabilised so the iPhone needs to be on a tripod.
