I changed from a low-end 7.1 AVR to a better quality 5.1 AVR. With the previous setup, I had split the extra 2 channels off and ran them as stereo output to a set of connectors that ran to speakers on the patio. However, with the 5.1 setup, that is no longer an option.

I have an extra airport express that I could set up to drive those patio speakers for AirPlay via my music library... but I am having trouble finding the necessary connector.

Can anyone provide a source for a quality cable that will connect the bare leads required for the wall plugs to a .35mm jack for the Airport Express?

What you're asking for is a cheap pair of headphones which you can cut and connect.

However, the Airport doesn't have an amplifier so are missing this step, and that's why there are no such adaptors.

As LiveM said, sounds like you are missing the power component. You can look to something like a T-amp which is small, or buy an old stereo on CL or at a garage sale. Or, possibly re-use your old 7.1 AVR.

Here are 2 sample T-amps:

http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-...TF8&qid=1456008517&sr=8-1&keywords=dayton+amp

I've used them both, and while the LP2020 gets good reviews, for the speakers I was driving it was very underpowered leading to a lot of distortion. The DTA120 was much superior (albeit 4x the cost).
