Speaker dock won't recognise iPhone after update

I recently updated my iPhone 3GS and now, when I put it in my speaker dock, it still plays music, but does not charge and you can't use the remote that came with the dock to skip or pause songs. Also, a message comes up on the iphone that says: "This accessory is not optimized for the iPhone" then says some interferance may occur.

Can this be fixed by doing something with the iphone, or should I contact the manufacturers of the speaker dock?
