Does anyone have any idea what might cause the speakers to go out in an iBook - and if it's likely to be an easy fix?

A neighbor has a 2005 1.33 ghz 14" iBook my son might be interested in buying - but the speaker problem concerns me.

Apparently the sound works fine with either headphones or external speakers - it just doesn't work with the built-in speakers.

They are just most likely blown out, due to some loud, sudden noise. Just replace the speakers. Check ifixit.com for guides on how to take your iBook apart.

Don't find anything at ifixit or apple about how to replace speakers. Also don't see replacement speakers available for sale anywhere . . . .

I know you pobably won't find speaker guides at iFixit, but you can find disassembly and use common sense to replace the speakers. You could find a broken iBook on ebay for the speakers.
