speaker image on screen

dunno what I hit, but there is a translucent speaker icon with assuming volume bar under it.. all in a square.. it wont go away.. not sure what I did to get it there, how do I get rid of it. its in the lower middle of the screen, above the dock

Did you try rebooting? That solves lots of problems. Also, a screen shot would be helpful.

naw did not reboot, it will probably fix but wanted to know how to remove it if possible without rebooting.

Somehow managed to get the volume key stuck..? Are you connected to an audio optical cable? Try unplugging and plugging that back in.

digital coax for audio.. unplugged it and back in, did nothing.. guess I will reboot and hope it goes away
