So I am going to buy new speakers/receivers and all that stuff.
I am considering the following options:

  • buying a pair of computer speakers

OR
  • an amplifier
  • better quality speakers
  • more imputs

What would you do? I need it for radio and good quality audio. I am looking into the Harman Kardon HK-3490 for it. Could I hook up two satellites and a subwoofer to it to play the radio and through my Mac via a audio input? Thanks!

If you're getting a receiver, I would just get nice quality speakers too. I believe you'd be able to hook up your Mac via analog or optical digital to a compatible receiver.

If you're willing to spend that kind of money on a receiver, I see no reason not to get bookshelves over multimedia computer speakers. As it stands, a cheap T-amp with entry level pair of bookshelves usually blows multimedia speakers away.
