I'm looking for a new set of speakers for my imac intel. What do you guys recommend? I'd like to choose one of the below on which have better sound quality and no known hardware issues over time.

Altec Lansing FX6021
Bose Companion 3
Bose Companion 3 Series II

Also, how are the Bose Companion 5? I just seen they had them...

I say listen to all of them and make your own decision...take your ipod in or a cd and see how they sound..Alot of people in these forums are anti-bose and i have yet to hear valid arguement against them yet except that they are bose.

get what you want...I have heard the altecs are very nice but i want the bose companion 5s to go with my 2footer

Bring on the Bose-bashers

Edit- I thought the altec were a little heavy on the bass and I am not a fan of heavy amounts of bass

I've been using the Bose Companion 3 speakers for around a year now with my TV/Xbox 360/DVD Setup, very good sound quality - very natural and pleasing sound, and has been 100% reliable. The little hockey puck is very useful for quick volume adjustment and instant mute.

Yes???;)

But really, my best advice would be to get the most you can for your budget, speaking of, what is your budget?

Ok, just looking, around $250. I personally would stay away from Bose, they are too much of "lookers" and not much of "talkers", meaning Bose spends alot, and I mean alot, on advertising, and making them look pretty, then they do on the acoustic design. I have heard good things about both Logitechs higher end Stereo w/ sub offering, as with Klipsch.

I'll take a bit more of a look around for yah tonight.:)

I have the Altec Lansing FX6021 and think they are the best computer speakers I have ever listened too. I sold my 5.1 speakers that didn't come close to the loudness and clarity of the Altec Lansing FX6021.

I think I'll end up getting one of the following.. Altec Lansing FX6021 or Bose Companion 5, I really like the looks of the Bose Companion 5, but I have heard the Altec Lansing FX6021 sound great.

Are the Bose Companion 5 clear/no base? as I like a little base, I also like having options on turning the base down.

the bose connect via usb and the 5channel emulation is done through that i believe, the altecs use a standard 3.5mm jack i think

I went to fry's today with a my ipod, a couple of cds, and a lp. I listned to the bose companio5 and 3, klipsh promedia2.1, logitech z5300, and the altec6021. I thought the logitech was overrated from what i ahve heard on these forums. I thought they were plenty loud but the drown out the details. The klipssh were pretty nice - the detaisl were nice, the bass was not to overpowering but sorry they were jus plain ugly and would not go very well with my imac at all. The companions had very nice detail s and good bass but i could tell a difference between the 5 or 3. the altecs on the other were just better than the logitechs and the klipsh (imho) and the bose companion 3s are very close. The bose 5s would seem to be a waste for me and i am trying to decide between the companion 3 and altec as their similarity of price

additionaly the control pods are nice on both and the altecs do have a remote...you get more customization on the alteccs control pod and the bose is done via sound prefs pane
