Whenever an application uses the internet, such as Opera, Safari or aMSNn the speakers create a static, crackling sound thats incredibly annoying. The only way to get rid of it is to shut down the app that makes it (usually aMSN or Safari) but it may start again soon. It must be an issue wtih the speakers as it doesn't have any effect on headphones.

Does anyone else have this problem? Or know any way to fix it?

Thanks for reading.

Care to tell us what type of Macbook you have?

Probably shouldn't have omitted that, sorry. I've got a 2.16 GHz Macbook, it's a first gen Macbook. Might it be something to do with running a Guitar through a Pod into the mic in? I heard that isn't good for the sound card, but then again I'm useless.

Plugging in an electric guitar can definitely fry a sound card if the signal isn't normalized or regulated.

So that might be whats causing the problem? I've stopped now, but I spose if the damage is done the damage is done. Ah well, thanks for helping. I'll just carry on leaving a 3.5mm to 3.5mm in the socket.
