speakers not working

i have a unibody mbp and after i did the latest update
my speakers don't work. i can't move the volume bar on the upper task bar
and also can't control the volume bars with the volume keys
anyone have this issue ? i heard something about the nvidia update caused some problems and was removed from software updates......
any help would be appreciated i hate staying on the phone with apple for hours ........thanks

just got off the phone with apple and they agree it is from the nvidia firmware update , so now i have to do a archive and install from disc , i'm pissed
