Hi, I just received my new Macbook Air as a replacement of my late 2010 Macbook Air. I noticed a real bad performance of the speakers and in comparison to my old MBA they are just terrible. Not in terms of volume but in terms of sound quality and "richness" of the music.

Are the new speakers much worse or are they not working correctly? Should I contact Apple for a replacement? Otherwise I'll just probably return it because the sound is just awful.

I had a 2010 MBA and now have a 2014 MBA. I didn't notice any difference in the speakers.

You can hear "richness" on such tinny speakers?

No matter, ur not happy with it, return. It's a large$ purchase after all.

Unfortunately Apple stores don't have a quiet room for you to compare.

I don't know about the Air, but I had a 2008 MBP that had good sounding speakers. Now I have a late 2013 rMBP and the sound is very disappointing, so I think you may be right. Older speakers were better sounding.

The 2008 MBP was so much bigger than any of these newer laptops, I'm sure the speakers and speaker enclosures were also much bigger. Should be no surprise that those sounded better.

But there shouldn't be a big difference between laptops of the same size.
