Should I get 7.1 or 5.1 or 2.1. If so, what brand/model should I get?

I mainly use it for music and sometime movies. I am using a iMac 4th gen 24"


Approx. budget of $1000

*If possible, please tell me how to get my iMac to support 7.1 or 5.1

Personally, I just use the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II
They are more than enough for me

I am an audiophile, damn sure about that
Currently using Samson StudioDock with Resolv sub88 (samson)
Considered Paradigm Millenia.(Hard squeeze of budget)

Most music will be stored in my iMac itunes. So yeah.
