When opening files of specific applications, they are not responding for a while, but after a while they seem to work fine. For example, if I open a tiny text in RTF, TextEdit startups but goes "not responding" immediately. After a couple of minutes my few words suddenly appear. Other example: If i open Pages I get the usual "choose your template"-screen. But when I select one ("Blank"), Pages goes "not responding". When saving files it's the same thing.
I can't see strange things Activity Monitor or Console.
I've encountered the following delays when starting up an app:
1) TextEdit (2:30 min)
2) Pages (2:30 min)
3) Logic (2:40 min)
4) GarageBand (3:30 -5:00 min.)
5) Numbers (8:00-10:00 min.)
What's important, is that I upgraded my low end unibody Macbook with a 320GB 7200rpm HD and 4GB RAM using Time Machine. It is very possible that the problems took place after his upgrade, but I don't know for sure. The rest of my system works great.
I totally had it, so I did a clean install with only copying my personal files (and my iPhoto library and iTunes prefs). It seemed to work fine, but yesterday he same thing occurred again! TextEdit worked fine yesterday, but today it's freezing again. The only thing I did different from all previous days is that I opened an CSV file (which I made myself in from Matlab) in Numbers. After that I got the "welcome" screen when launching iWork (the screen you get when you launch iWork for the first time). It would be possible though that I'm wrong and that I'm confusing this screen with something else.
I can't do much on my Macbook with these enormous freezes every time I launch an app, or load/save a file. It's even worse that I don't know what to do since a clean install didn't help.
If someone has some ideas... Please!
An other thing: if I will bring my Macbook to a Premium Reseller, will they help me? Don't forget I installed the HD and memory myself.
And I have some not very legal software...
