I am going to be getting a large external HD for my Macbook Pro soon, and I want to be able to spread out my files between the two drives: storage and unimportant applications on the EHD and performance-key apps and other data on my laptop. But I also want to have everything nearly as accessible and organized as it is now and saved searches (smart folders) seem to be the best way of going at it. The problem is I have no idea how to point Spotlight in Leopard to multiple, specific folders. Say, look for Kind Applications, Extension .app, in this, this, and this location. I can do the first two but cannot get the third one down. I dont want to toy with privacy settings either as that would exclude ALL searches from searching in a location (say Dev tools, which I wouldn't want clogging my Applications smart folder but do want accessible if need be).

Any help? Thanks.

PS. I am assuming that my 5400 RPM drive SATA is faster than a 7200 RPM drive via USB 2.0? Seems stupid but hey.
