Specific UK Apple Care question.

Hello all.

I am currently entering into University education in the UK and have a question regarding Apple Care for Higher Education students. However my situation is a little different.

As I am aware HE students have 3 years worth of AppleCare thrown in for free when you order the Mac (in my case 15" Retina) via telephone or online.

However whilst I am a HE student here in the UK (I have letter of acceptance from University if its necessary for Apple to verify) I actually purchased the computer via Amazon in the United States whilst I was on Vacation there. I am a UK citizen.

I am asking this as I need to sort out AppleCare within the next few weeks before the 1 year deadline to buy comes around.

I just don't want to go into an Apple Store and pay for the Apple Care when in fact I need not have purchased it in the first place.

Different country have different Educational discount policy. My guess is the UK HE discount only apply to Apple products brought in the UK.

I suspect this warranty applies only when you buy the product in the UK through the apple store however I do not know. What I find confusing about your post is that you said that the one year warranty is about to expire so that means you bought laptop almost one year ago but you just go accepted to University. Does this mean that you bought the laptop one year before you were a student? In that case I would be very doubtful that the warranty applies.

Unfortunately you shall have been required to purchase the MacBookPro through the educational store in order to receive the HE extended guarantee. It cannot to my knowledge be added onto an existing product outside of this store and the Apple store itself cannot do anything about this.

Its important to note you are not entitled to three years worth of AppleCare. Instead the HE agreement entitles you to three years guarantee only; this excludes any support.

I now realise that I will have to purchase the AppleCare. I did however call and they mentioned that if I come into an Apple Store and bring my University letter of acceptance, I will receive a discounted rate on AppleCare. Which is good.
