Speck MagFolio

Haven't tried it but really like my Fitfolio. I added my own magnet to the Fitfolio to turn on/off, so far so good. If I had seen the MagFolio first I probably would have purchased it instead.
 
I am very interested in this new case from Speck. I have been searching for a video review and so far cannot find anyone who has reviewed it. It looks like a great case. Thinner than the Switcheasy Canvas and an improvement on the Speck Fitfolio.
 
I like the look of this case. Just provided my email to be notified of when they will have it in stock.
 
I just went ahead and ordered one of these....chose the Luxe leather version in the Cognac colour. Speck gave me a 15% off promo, plus it's free shipping so I figured why not. If it's not satisfactory I'll just return it. I'll be sure to post here my opinion of this case when it arrives.

I have gone through two of the standard mag folio, one developed creases after 3 days and the other is cominging apart, I retuned the first and will be returning the second.

I have ordered a leather one to try. I like the protection this case provides.

I just ordered a burgundy leather magfolio. Hope it's built better than the ones you've tried. The fitfolio seemed to generally get pretty good reviews. I didn't consider it because of the lack of the on/off magnet and the bungee cord closure. It looks like Speck addressed these issues. I'll post my thoughts when I get one.
 
the speck case is pretty nice. i remember seeing these on ilounge one day when browsing but I found this sling pack on ilounge called the iBackFlip. This thing is perfect for my everyday carrying needs.
 
I just received my case today. Like I said above I order the MagFolio Luxe version in Cognac leather. I'm impressed at how quickly the case arrived, and it was packaged very well.

I am very impressed with this case. The materials are high quality and put together very nicely. The plastic frame that the iPad snaps into is thick enough and pliable enough that I do not fear it will crack or break..very strong. The plastic is also a nice satin finish that feels smooth and soft.

The leather is a quality grain. I would actually recommend some sort of leather protector, as this type of quality leather can be prone to spotting if water drips or splashes onto the surface...be careful not to lay on a wet table or near a splashy sink. This case adds very little bulk and is reasonably light weight. The leather cover is very thin...similar in thickness to the Apple Smart Cover.

The case has 4 notches to provide several viewing angles which are grooved deeply enough to provide plenty of stability. The notches are indented into a nice soft swede type of material on the inside of the case...this material shouldn't scratch the iPad screen at all.

The case incorporates the sleep/wake function with a hidden magnet in the cover. The case also provides a little flap at the end of the cover that wraps around the edge of the plastic and fastens to a magnet when the case is closed...this holds the cover closed firmly and easily.

Overall I'm very happy with this case. Enough protection in a slim profile and built with quality materials. The Switcheasy Canvas is more "protective" due to its thicker padded canvas material that wraps around the front and back of the case...but that adds bulk and weight. I find this case to be a perfect middle of the road compromise. The biggest downfall is its much higher price tag....at $100 for this leather version.

I received the MagFolio Luxe yesterday. I guess I am not quite as impressed with the case as Shield is in his review. It's OK. It is attractive and slim.

The auto/off function works fine, but the latch flap and magnet doesn't seem to work all that well on my case. Without the Ipad in the case, the cover lays flat when closed and the flap is easily held closed by the magnet. However, when the Ipad is in the case, the cover doesn't fold flat for some reason, thus the latch flap has difficulty catching the magnet. I've tried stretching the cover a bit, but still have the problem. Maybe it will take a little breaking in period.

When opened the frame is loose on one end and flaps around a bit, which is a pain. I think the biggest problem for me is the $99 price. Don't think it's worth it. I also have the Toblino 2 which is now selling on Amazon for $29.99. The form factor is similar to the Speck. Both are leather (you can argue that the Speck leather is a little nicer, but the Toblino contains no visible plastic or rubber).

Guess my bottom line is that for the price, it should be a little better than what it is.

Perhaps your case is defective...but I initially found that I had this same problem until I realized that I hadn't snapped my iPad into the plastic frame fully. I had unknowingly left it unsnapped at the inside left edge....there is a single plastic arm that needs to come up and over the iPad's left side and firmly snap into place. Then the cover wrapped around the iPad properly and the magnetic flap closed correctly for me. Obviously, as with most cases, there still may be a break-in period. But I really don't find this to be an issue at all.

I have to agree with this. The price tag is steep...no argument here. I got a promo discount from Speck, and with the free shipping I decided to go ahead. The leather is a nice grain...but it is very thin. The case is what it's advertised to be in my opinion (slim profile, quality materials), but asking $99 straight up is overpriced.

I received the black leather one and while I like the set up the quality of the black leather is very poor for the price.
 
Does that type of case provide a position for typing? I haven't seen a photo of one in typing position and I can't see how the design of the case would provide a typing position.

I personally find this position works the best for me. For this angle i simply bring the iPad all the way past the notches and let the magnetic flap work as a notch. This angle is not quite as recessed as the typing position for a smart cover however, but I don't mind it. I think you can also flip the cover around the other direction and prop it underneath, but that doesn't feel as stable.

Did you put leather protector on it before you took pictures? My leather isn't that dark through it says its the cognac version. My leather feels stiff and like cat tongue.

The pictures do make it look darker than it really is. Also I've seen a newer Luxe case that a member of my family has picked up and the leather is different from the early version that I got. The newer leather seems stiffer and better quality. It looks like it shouldn't need the leather protector anymore. I think Speck has revised this case from when I first ordered mine back in early January....just my guess.

Hi, bumping this... but I'm looking for something to replace my STM Skinny.

Quick question: is the back cover material hard plastic or softer TPU-type?
