Hi all,

I'm replacing an old PC, want an octo nehalem. My question is this, how much of a speed difference is there really between the 2.26 processor, and the next one up, the 2.66? There's a $1400 difference, and numerically, it doesn't look like it's worth it.

For doing video work, photo editing, even games.

Thanks!

First of all, how well are the programs you're using optimized for multiple cores?

I haven't heard of any benchmarking yet for the new pro's. Wait a bit, and see if macworld or arstechnica gets around to it.

If you're switching from an old pc, doubtlessly either one will seem to be a massive improvement. Also, are you doing these things for pleasure or for profit? If for profit, and every extra second that goes by means less money, then I'd go with the higher tier model.
