What is real life write/read speed difference between

-MacBook Pro 13-inch retina internal SSD
-16/32GB card in SDXC-slot
-external USB3 hard drive

It really depends and the differences can be quite big, unless you know exact configurations: SSD and HDD brands and types, SD cards, too... Just to illustrate let me give you my benchmarks. Keep in mind these were run on my mid-2012 cMBP9,2:

1.Samsung 830 256GB SSD (very comparable to whatever is inside rMBP, if not better) - 476/409MB/s;

2. Seagate 750GB Momentus XT drive inside USB3 OWC enclosure - 38.8/94.6MB/s;

3. Seagate GoFlex External 3TB USB3 - 144.5/144.6MB/s

4. Kingston 16GB Class 4 SD card (this is a very old one, nowadays SD cards are lot faster, I have one class 10 coming in soon, not here yet;) - 22.8/9.9MB/s

Hope it is helpful;)

curious results. the usb 3.0 enclosure with the momentus xt drive only gets 38 write but the seagate usb 3.0 gets 144 write. wonder what drive the seagate is using to get such high numbers

Disregard that number Seagate Momentus XT 750GB... I have time machine running on that drive and it was probably running... I was too lazy to re-run it, never really believed that write speeds would be that much higher than read;) Here you go with updated #s: 104.3/100.9MB/s, more accurate, I hope. As to why would they be lower than my other Seagate drive (Goflex), no idea, I guess might have to do with the different interfaces

The other Seagate Goflex drive is this one, Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 3 TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive STAC3000101. I got in 2010 for my PC laptop.
