New to Macs in general but bought have 27" IMac and Airport Extreme router. Wanted to upgrade my internet speed and local company came out and installed their wireless modem, clear access. My system is currently setup to run a wireless network. Problem is we can get the speed on the dsl line. Same speed coming out of wireless modem but once the airport extreme is connected the speed drops dramatically. Speed out of wireless modem is appr. 8 mb, speed once airport extreme is connected drops to around 1.86 mb. Picked up a new patch cord to test between modem and router and speed numbers are the same. Local provider will not attempt any adjustments on equipment that is not theirs. Any ideas on where I can proceed?

Run a ethernet wire from the airport extreme to your iMac. Don't use wireless unless necessary.
