Behind the lens
Dont know if this has ever been posted before, but I aint seen it, so here goes.
Do this, it really does work!

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll
down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really
speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This
means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on
information it recieves.

If you're using a brodband connection you'll load pages 2-30 times faster
now.

im on a College campus connection so I barely notice any speed difference, but I can say I didnt break my machine doing this.

You could just use the Fasterfox extension to do some of that without all the research.

You could notice speedups on some servers and slowdowns on others, depending on the level. Shoving more responsibility onto the server is probably not a good thing, though, and with many people doing the same thing, you could end up with a broken server.

its not MY server, I thought about that. basically hammering DNS servers for webpages to get them faster.

personally, F--- em. Whats good for me, is good for ME!

personally, it will only make a marginal difference. there's a couple of threads about this, so there's no need to make a new one, especially with exaggerated claims.

having this configuration isn't going to tax the servers that much.

The big way that FasterFox is 'unethical' in hammering servers, is that it will fetch the information for every link on the current page you are on. Most users would never do that, and never all at once. The settings this person laid out will not do that, and will not mercilessly hammer a server.
