As you all know the iPhone 3G is pretty damn slow with 4.0/4.0.1 on. Someone found a way to speed it up considerably. It seems Spotlight search is a major cuplrit and by going to settings/general/spotlight search and unticking all the options (or ones you don't need), you'll improve the phone's speed. I've just done this and it's very noticeably faster.

Thanks for that I have a 3G and have considered upgrading but read one horror story too many.

mine is JB not sure if this would be a problem, what benefits have you found by upgrading?

I have not found any benefits beside adding folders, and it being so slow I am getting an iPhone 4. Ordered the 4 16gb on AT&T on the 17th.
If you have a 3G, ios4 is really slow. Not recommended. Jmho.

Spotlight on the iPhone? Or the pooter?

On the phone

Yea I had updated and immediately regretted it. The phone was unbelievably slow and unresponsive so I downgraded back to 3.1.3. However I tried this trick and it seems much better. Only problem is a lot of jailbreak apps haven't been updated for 4.0 yet.
