Speeding Up Internet Downloads?

The search feature of this website isn't working for me. Keeps saying "the following errors occurred with your search," with nothing following.

Anyway, is there some trick to speeding up internet downloads? Compared to my PC, downloads with the Mac are nearly as slow as molasses (at least 25~45% slower for the same size files - indeed the same files - using the same wireless broadband connection). This is obviously less than ideal when downloading larger files. Running Mountain Lion (10.8.3) on the latest (brand new) iMac.

Ignore the spam. Ethernet or a wireless repeater to boost the signal.

Try changing channels. Other objects in your house, or office have an electromagnetic field. Such as TV's, speakers, or phones. These fields can interfere with the signal from your wi-fi. Sometimes changing channels, or location of the antennae, can help. Boosters can help too.
