Spell check, English or American ?

Hello, I am from the u.k and have recently noticed that I have been getting some strange corrections.
Ie: 'Favourites' is a correct spelling for english, but spell check wants to do it 'Favorites'
When I do a spell check by pressing 'apple' key, 'up' key or shift? and ':' key is it using the computers checker or this site?

Also the keys I have to hold are not the same as my manual says, its the same for enlarging text, its apple,shift and + key?

Right-click and add the correct spelling to the dictionary.

When I do a spell check by pressing 'apple' key, 'up' key or shift? and ':' key is it using the computers checker or this site?

Do you have British English set as the default language for OS X? Go to System Preferences > International & drag British English to the top of the list.

Aha! I was about to inform you that it wasn't there, but you actually have to pull it up under the Edit List button.
