Spell Check in Microsoft Word arbitrarily changes

I have an issue with Microsoft Word. I changed the language to UK English but it arbitrarily changes to American English in the same document! Is there a way I can make Word forget American English altogether?

Without me doing anything the language changed.

Click on the language and disable “Detect language automatically”
