I've noticed a curious phenomenon when trying to change system languages.
My default spelling dictionary is British English. My system language is set to British English, which is the top option, followed by generic English, followed by German. US English isn't even selected at all.
When I re-order system languages (I was experimenting with German following UK English and in front of the generic 'English' setting, to see if apps that didn't have a specific British version would just appear in German) the computer decides that my spell-checker ought to be reset to US English, even when I haven't even ticked it. It's disabled and has been for ages. Why does the American spell-checker come back from the dead like a zombie?
This has been an apparent problem since Snow Leopard. I rarely re-order system languages, but I've noticed the 'US English' spelling being activated every time I've attempted to do it.
