I need help with my spelling checker in Word for Mac. When I select a "correctly spelled" word from the drop down the corrected word show up in the document with two questions marks in boxes? The post looked like this - crankbait਍ഀ with "?" in the boxes? If I delete the boxes the spell check adds the red underline again indicting it is spelled wrong. crankbait is a word I added to the dictionary???? Hope someone can help.

You need to open and edit your user custom dictionary in order to find out what's going on. The user dictionary you created when you added words is in plain text and easy to edit. Here is the path in Office 2011:

Macintosh HD/Users/your name/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/Preferences/Office 2011/custom dictionary

Remember that your user library is hidden by default. To unhide the user library, open terminal and type the following:

chflags nohidden ~/Library/
