I recently received the Spigen Mag Fit housing for the magsafe charger, and it has alleviated several of my concerns with the base Apple product.
First it’s doing a commendable job keeping the puck firmly in place on my nightstand, making it a simple one-handed affair to both pick up and position the phone on the charger without the annoyance of the puck moving around. It has a reusable sticky pad along the bottom of the housing that makes it stick tenaciously to whatever it’s placed on.
Second, it also solves the problem of the magsafe puck branding circles into the silicone or leather cases. The recessed compartment in the Mag Fit housing itself is about 1/2mm taller than the aluminum ring on the magsafe puck, meaning that the phone will never actually make physical contact with the magsafe charger going forward. No contact with the potentially hot and abrasive metal ring means that the charger can’t damage a case. I’m satisfied that my leather case will look pristine and circle brand free for the forseeable future. This doesn’t appear to have any effect on the magnetic positioning of the phone on the charger — it magnetically locks in and positions itself just as it had before, but without the metallic “thunk” of charger hitting case/phone.
It’s a simple product that will likely get little fanfare, but I thought I’d share the finer points that are difficult to glean from photos alone.
