Spigen vs. ESR vs. Apple?

Yeah, so it looks like I’ll have to put off buying a Magic Keyboard for now, so I am looking for a case for the 2021 12.9” iPP.

I have narrowed it down to 3 options:

Spigen Liquid Air Folio
ESR Ascend Trifold Case
Apple Smart Folio (Electric Orange)

What would you go with? I love the color of the Apple Smart Folio. The price is a drawback, but I am willing to pay that much. The other two look good too, though and would be much easier on the wallet.

I received the Spigen Liquid Air and the ESR Rebound today. It seems pretty close to the Ascend. Have the Apple on order for pick up tomorrow. I like the ESR case and will probably keep it. Not crazy about the Spigen and plan on retuning it. The back is hard plastic and it feels like it would break or crack pretty easily. The ESR attaches magnetically and does not cover the sides, like the Apple. The Spigen more snaps in, and the top and bottom are covered and part of the side, except where the pencil would attach.

Just noticed the camera cutout seems to be slightly bigger on the Spigen, so will wait until Friday to be sure the ESR works ok.

Thanks for the reply. After checking it out, I seem to like the ESR Rebound better than the Ascend. Which color did you get? I wish it was available in red, but the blue looks nice although I might just opt for black.

I like the trifold cases but not a fan of the magnetic type. They are very slim but worried about stuff getting underneath case and might be some movement. I have never owned one so maybe I am wrong. Just my OCD in play.

Magnets are strong, doubt anything could get back there. The only issues are the sides are unprotected. But for me, it’s just more convenient that trying to remove it from a bumper case. I do switch them from case to MKB and Smart Keyboard on my 11” iPP.

I do like that the sides are open so can use iPad buttons instead of bumper with crappy buttons.

I bought a Spigen for the moment. Didn’t decide yet which keyboard I want to buy. Will be delivered tomorrow.

I also looked for the Apple case but more than 100€ lol. No thanks.

I picked up a Surf Blue genuine Apple Smart Folio, unopened, from eBay for £30. Looks really smart.

There are places selling them for £50 in the UK

Got the iPad and the Spigen case and it’s great so far. Well made and worth the 20€ or why I paid for it.
will keep it safe until I get a Combo Touch

You got the 2020 version of the ESR Rebound? I assume it fits well. Does it flap magnet to the back when it’s open - or does it just hand loose?

I ordered the Spigen case in the $subject and it’s ok. It’s not amazing but it does the job well, and the iPad is easy to take out of it. My biggest issue is that flap just “flaps” when it’s open

The BEST thing about the Apple case is that it magnets to the back when open so you don’t have to hold it with your hand. It is a fingerprint Magnet. If you hands are even a little damp when you pick it up, you’ll leave disgusting looking spots. It requires frequent cleaning.

The price of the Apple case is just ridiculous. No magnet justifies that for me

The ESR Rebound I got is listed on Amazon for the 2021 5th generation and fits great. Although, the ESR website lists it for the 2020/2021. Yes the flap sticks to the back when it’s open, so it does not hang loose. I decided to keep the Spigen, since it provides some protection for the top, bottom, and some side protection, but I don’t like it as well. Cancelled the Apple case, as I can have both the ESR and Spigen for half the price.

Got the ESR folio case to try out and decided to return it and stick with Apple Smart Folio.
The ESR one has extended edges for slightly more protection but it is a lot heavier and bulkier.

I was going to get one of these, but I was ultimately able to get the Magic Keyboard in white for the 2021 12.9”. Really looking forward to getting my hands on both on Tuesday!

I picked up an ESR rebound cover and it’s great really, sticks to the back magnetically and feels great for such a low price, would definitely recommend.
