Spigen recently expanded its C1 series with an Apple Watch charger that's designed to look like Apple's retro iMac G3. For those unfamiliar with Spigen's C1 accessories, they are modeled after classic Apple products.

The Apple Watch Classic C1 Charger Stand is priced at $34.99, and it is designed to house an Apple Watch charging puck. This is just an Apple Watch charger enclosure, so you're going to need to supply your own puck. The good news is that if you have an Apple Watch with fast charging, you can use the puck that came with it to get the quickest charging speeds.

Spigen's C1 Charger Stand uses the iMac G3 shape, with the Apple Watch charging puck embedded in the display. It features a disk drive at the front, and two control buttons. At the back, there's a translucent plastic enclosure with four color options selected to match Apple's original Mac: Tangerine, Graphite, Bondi Blue, and Ruby. Bondi Blue in particular is a well-known color associated with the iMac G3.

The Apple Watch charging cable can be pulled through the back of the mini iMac, and the cable length can be tucked away under a desk for a cable-free look.

Spigen offers a range of C1 devices inspired by classic Apple products, including iPhone cases and AirPods cases.

Spigen's new iMac G3 Apple Watch charger can be purchased from the Spigen website.

Maybe I'm out of touch but isn't this essentially $35 for a plastic shell which looks cute if it's BYO puck?

(I thought we had moved away from BYO puck apple watch charger stands a decade ago after the initial round of kickstarters)

Does retro mean old? I always assumed it was a time period, like between 70's and mid 80's?

It means old styles getting fashionable again, with an awareness that they aren’t new but a revival. In computing, it’s usually nostalgia-driven. It doesn’t refer to a specific time period. The original usage of the term was in the early 70s for fashions of the 60s.

Love the iMac g3…spent countless hours playing quake arena online on them at school 😂

"As an adjective, 'retro' means imitative of a style, fashion, or design, from the recent past." - per Siri.
Indeed. "Retro" more generally means "backwards" or "behind" and comes from latin. The opposite is "pro". Think retrospective vs prospective.

Therefore if design is "retro" it simply means that it references something from the past. It doesn't mean any particular time period, recent or ancient.

That's one of the cooler things I've seen in a while.

That's not just any disk drive at the front--that's a tray-loading CD-ROM drive, or a CD-RW or DVD-ROM if you splurged on the later models. DVD-RW drives for the iMac line were introduced with the iMac G4.

I had a ruby iMac with DVD rom. I couldnt burn disks, we had no USB flash drives, there was no floppy drive, so transferring data was a pain. I bought an iomega zip 100 drive for transfers. Was a bit of an oversight on the part of Apple.

Well that's fun.

The puck-in-place-of-screen hits my uncanny valley a bit--it's like a faceless nightmare iMac, but cute. However, with a watch charging, it's actually got a tiny little screen to go with the tiny little iMac, which is kinda awesome.

Bit lower resolution than the original iMac screen, but 4x the linear pixel density, so not that much lower.
