hi. like the title says, i spilled a little ketchup in the ear speaker of my iphone 4. of course i cleaned the ketchup out and when i got home i tried to clean it with rubbing alcohol at the end of a q-tip. but still at this point it's really really hard to hear anyone on the other end. so i'm pretty sure there's little tiny pieces of ketchup residue within the speaker. has anyone had a similar problem or have any suggestions as to what i should do? thank you in advance!

Use the headphones meanwhile.
Take to the apple store genius bar and see if they can clean it for you, sometimes the do things for free, tell them the truth and they might want to help you for free if they are not that busy, or are curious about it.
the other route might be ifixt.com
Ketchup eats aluminum.

Ketchup is really corrosive, I found that you can use it to polish copper. If you want to try to clean it do it soon.

try using isopropyl on a cotton bud whilst the phone is off obviously not only does it clean very well it evaporates very quickly therefore not causing water damage to you speaker, just be very cautious when doing so. if not apple store :)

Me too!

I also endured the same unfortunate problem.
I spilt some ketchup and what do you know land right in my iphone earpiece. i cleaned it instantly with a paper towel and seemed to get most of it out, but my earpiece is quiet when im trying to listen to someone. Please let me know what you have tried or if you know any way to clean or fix this problem please let me know

I was quite excited to google this unique problem and read that not only one, but two people had also committed this gaffe.

I did it when i was driving - i usually keep my phone on my lap so i can see who calls when I decide to answer with my headphones or not, and was squeezing ketchup into some onion rings and squirted some right across my phone, including all over the ear speaker. I wiped it off with my hand and a napkin and didnt think much of it, and when i went to use my phone again couldnt hear much of anything. I just wiped it down with a rubbing alcohol swab and it seems to be working better.

I hope you and I are not on the same continent. :) multitasking while driving can't be good for your fellow drivers or your insurance.

I do admit I drink coffee from a cup using a straw, but had to give up shaving and reading the newspaper, However I have a hands free in the car and the iPhone is tucked away safely in a cubby hole so my cigarette ashes don't land on it. It took a while but I have found the perfect seat position to steer with my knees so my hands are free for coffee and cigarettes.
