Spinning Beach Ball on Authentication

Whenever I have to authenticate something (i.e, a secure system preference,) I get the spinning beach ball for about 5-10 seconds, then I am able to authenticate. This also happens when clicking on a user in the login screen.

I am running Tiger on a G4. Any ideas?

Have you got FileVault enabled?

No, I don't. I repaired my permissions using Disk Utility on the Install CD, and all is well. Silly me
