Spinpoint or Barracuda?

I'd like to add a 500 gb storage drive...considering this:

or

Seagate Barracuda 500 gb $120 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148136

Which do you think is better? Searched a bit and there used to be issues with seagate drives and mac pro's with the drives not functioning at full speed? I guess that's been resolved by now?

Spinpoints are quieter, Barracuda's have better performance. Though you may not even notice the differences under normal use.

thanks umbongo...looking at those figures, actually decided the spinpoint was a better idea overall...gonna order it

I have a 320GB barracuda and the 500GB spinpoint (in addition the stock 250GB WD which is my boot drive).

Both are less than half full currently. I haven't noticed a huge difference in speed, although it sort of seems like maybe the spinpoint is faster? If someone wants to tell me benchmarks to run, I'll run them.

The spinpoint is MUCH quieter other than that it makes some weird low pitched clicking sounds at times -- this seems to be an anomaly with my drive, but I haven't returned it because I haven't had any other problems.

But the spinpoint really is a lot quieter (in terms of the constant sound level). Alot.
