I downloaded the Splash ID app over the air for $10. I've used this before on other handhelds and think it's great. But if you want the companion desktop app you have to pay an extra $20 to download that separately. Now, from what I can see, they charge $30 for the desktop/handheld combo on other devices, so they're not screwing iPhone users, but if - like me - you thought $10 was a bargain, it's not quite.
I think that you can get away with just using the handheld portion of this app, because presumably the database will get backed up when you sync (don't know for certain). However, entering data on the iPhone so far has been a little buggy, and only via the desktop app can you upload a database you may already have for a different device. And, of course, if I'm wrong about the database being backed up without the desktop app...
