Hi all,
The dreaded split cable finally happened to my 5s charger wire this morning. From what I can tell, only the outer insulator has torn. Is it safe for me to just tape it? Really don't want to pay £15 for a new cable! Any other alternative suggestions would be appreciated!
Many thanks in advance.

You could tape it up but it will most likely fail anyway. In terms of replacement cables you can go for 3rd party certified ones rather than paying £15 for genuine Apple. Anker lightning cables are generally regarded to be good quality. You can get 3ft and 6ft versions in four colours. Link below.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm out of warranty, do you think it's worth going to an Apple store and seeing if they'll give me a free replacement cable? Long shot I guess..
