Split organized threads in mail?

I did search and couldn't find anything on this, but sorry if I've missed a thread somewhere...

I like using the 'Organize by thread' option on my inbox, but find that loads of old messages are being grouped with new ones not part of the conversation because they have the same title. Is there any way to split the threads?
