I've been trying to figure out how to split the screen in final cut express 3.0, so I can have one video image on one side, and another on the other side of the screen. I can't find it under video filter, transitions or anything. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

Put the video tracks in V1, V2.
Double click on one track, and hit 'Motion' in the viewer

There you have options to crop, resize and move the video as necessary.

You can have great fun with this, even rotating shots and putting in keyframe animation too. Enjoy!

thank you for the prompt response. very helpful. i guess you can't get 100% of the frames on either side? This is something I will have to take into consideration while shooting...Thanks again

Unfortunately not, because you're splitting up the 4:3/16:9 frame into two. Not even the best editing suite in the world can help you there. You could always stretch the shots, but this will look nasty.

If you plan exactly how you want the finished shot to look when finished, you should be able to capture your V1 and V2 tracks accordingly.

This attachment is a good example. You don't have to worry about getting the top/bottom exactly lined up when filming, as you can 'crop' to the right bit of the shot.

Enjoy using FCE 3.0

four shot split screen

is it possible to do a four-way split screen using this method in final cut express?

Yes, emelex, it is. Just use those crop sliders again. You could do a 16-way SS if you really wanted. Or more.

Is it possible to do a split screen video like they do on the news shows. You have one person talking in one screen and another person talking in another split section. How do they do that.
