Split screen not working ios14.3

i haven't used this in a while, but i wanted to use it today and it's not working on either my 2020 iPad Air or older (2015?) iPad Pro 12.9...both running 14.3 and have multitasking turned on...

anyone else having this issue? i scoured the web and even reset all setting and its still not working.

Maybe the app(s) you're trying don't support splitscreen? 🤔

i think Messages and Safari should work, right? nothing happens when i try to "pull" the app from the dock...

Sounds like possible user error.

With Safari open, tap on messages (hold the icon with your finger) and drag it to the far right or left and pause with your finger still on messages icon. If you do it correctly, the Safari window should start to decrease to make room for messages.

thank you. you are right...it is a user error...i wasn't holding it long enough and then when it popped up the "haptic touch" menu, i thought i had held it too long to drag over.

Glad I could help. The same thing happened to me when I first tried using split screen on the iPad.
